Marie's Nutcracker. Marie is the understudy for the part of Clara in her mother's dance studio production of The Nutcracker. Peter, a dreamy-looking male dancer hired for the role of the Nutcracker/Prince helps Marie overcomes her stage fright and boosts her self-esteem. When the prima ballerina is injured during opening night, Marie steps into the role of Clara with stunning results. Both Marie and Peter fall in love under the spell of Christmas Magic. This is not the full-length ballet. Instead, it shows the production of the Nutcracker and highlights many of the best-known dances woven together though the narrative of the production. There are many humors characters and settings along with a touch of magic and sentimentality. The movie is destined to become a Christmas classic played year-after-year in reruns. On-screen dancing comprises approximately 1/3 of the running time. Only the best-loved musical numbers are used. There are inventive, non-dance, uses for some of the Nutcracker tunes.
